Geoff Meeker’s ConsumerTech column archive

I’m Geoff Meeker, and this is my complete archive of  ConsumerTech (formerly Technofile) columns, written since April of 2006 for The Telegram and The Express newspapers in St. John’s, Newfoundland. They feature reviews and advice on the latest consumer technology, from neat gadgets to everyday household appliances. My definition of technology is, “Any device that makes life easier or more enjoyable.” The telephone, for example, is more than a century old. However, because of new innovations, such as the iPhone, we continue to talk about this technology a great deal.

My approach is to keep it simple and understandable. I’m not interested in what goes on under the hood, so much as how well it works and whether people should buy it.

Some columns may seem out of date, in that the technology reviewed (such as the Palm Treo) has been overtaken by newer, cooler devices. Some stand up well, and others have been fairly accurate in recognizing the significance of new innovations (such as my first review of the iPhone). Please note that some external links may be out of date and may no longer work.

In future, all new columns will be archived here, seven days after they appear in the print edition.
